There are lots of fancy ways to decorate cupcake boxes but if you’re not artistic what you do? Me I steal ideals, well not really…just sort of. I like to find a great design and then modify it to fit my personality while at other times I’ll just make a mishmash of several good ideals. Like any recipe sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but the more you do it the better the results.
The simplest way to decorate a cupcake box is with a ribbon, whether you want a whimsical look or an expression of elegance there is a ribbon to fit your needs. Ribbons and bows should be your first line of defense against the mundane.
For a whimsical look just use curling ribbon. Yep, curling ribbon around the box and lots of ribbon for the bow. A big bunch of curlicues on top the box and lots of dangles looks great. Curling ribbon comes in an amazing assortment of colors and styles. Solid colors, metallic looks, decorated with designs or even printed with salutations for special events.
If you’re looking for elegance there are thousands of fancy ribbons to choose from. A well-stocked craft shop will have hundreds a ribbons and a large wholesale florist is likely to have over 1000 ribbons on their shelves.
Cupcake box decorations like painted designs or calligraphy are not for the artistically challenged but with a computer we can do a pretty good job of faking it.
Check your computer or the Internet to find the design you like. While there are many free designs available the ones you have to pay for usually give me the best results but use what works for you.
Next you need labels or tag materials, again the selection can be overwhelming. If you’re making tags to be attached to your cupcake boxes check out the fancy papers at the local office supply. Labels come and clear or colors, matte or glossy and many die cut shapes. Again your local office supply has lots of lables or you can check online for even more choices. Don’t be afraid to experiment after all this is supposed to be fun, so have fun!
We have just scratched the surface of cupcake box decorating. A large wholesale florist is a great place for ideals, just walk the shelves in the hard goods section and you come away with dozens of ideals and if you’re not careful a big bag or two of goodies. While you’re at the wholesale florist you could that pick-up some fresh flowers and add them to your design. Did you know that Pansies and Violas are edible?
The video below shows how to tie a bow on a cupcake box. There are many ways to do this, you do not have to make the bow with the ribbon that goes around the box. If you make a separate bow there are two basic way to attach it to the ribbon. Use the tails of the ribbon that goes around the box to tie the bow in place. The second way is to use florist wire or a chenille stem (pipe cleaner) to make a more invisible attachment to the ribbon.
The next video below shows how to tie a bow. The techniques used in the video can be used for making many types of bows. While the bow being made is rather large the same principles are used on all sizes. Just scale the bow down in size and you will have one that will fit your cupcake box.
Good luck and have fun that’s what it’s all about.
